Snow and memories ...

Snowsnowsnowsnowsnowsnow ....

SNOW!

D'you know, I don't think we've had a really good Thanksgiving snow since '88, the year I moved to Oregon? We were staying at my Granddad's house up in the hills around (where?) and I remember thinking I must be in kid heaven, there was so much nifty white wet stuff everywhere. I sure hope we get snow this month!! (Not that I can play in it much ... Grrr ...)

Hey! 1988 ... That means I've lived in Oregon more than half my life. Does that mean I count as an Oregonian now, instead of a transplanted Texan? =^)

The weekend was pretty good. Well, most of it was, anyway. I visited with my family, got my hair cut, bought some fleece, went to a birthday party, and watched Red Planet at the movie theater with my brother. On the down side, I think one of the family dogs is dying. We thought it would be the little rat terrier first -- he's fifteen and a half years old -- and the Keeshond is only eleven; but while Toby might be blind, deaf, slow, and lumpy, he's still a happy dog; Adam, on the other hand, appears to have stomach cancer.

That dog has been there since I was in junior high. I mean, he's only a dog; but the idea that he might not be there the next time I go home is really, really depressing.

*pause* *blink* Okay, I think it's time for me to change the subject. Depression is like an undertow. If you let it catch you, no telling when or where you'll come back up.

I have this really cute picture on my desk. It's black-and-white, a little girl standing in the rain, arms outstretched, looking up into the sky with this surprised expression on her face. Underneath the picture are these words: "Then, when it seems we will never smile again, life comes back." (Of course, it's cuter in person, but you get the idea). I keep it there to remind me, on days like this, that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. As cheesy as that might sound, it can be really reassuring anyway.

Well, it's time to clock out of work ... One of these days, I really must get 'net access from home ...
