Leggs, and Tales from a Weary Mover of Boxes

Yesterday's answer, for $16000: A. Taj Mahal

(I took out yesterday's filler entry, so I'll put in another plug here for my Library Project, which it was covering for).

*pout* I was being so good there for awhile, and now I've done it again ... ruined another pair of pantyhose! I really wish I had the time/$$ to go visit a Leggs outfit or something.

Speaking of legs, mine are rather sore this morning ... just like my arms, my back, and almost every joint in my body necessary for carrying large boxes to and fro. Jocasta and I moved all seven apple-boxes full of books and my four flimsy little bookshelves last night. It was torture getting them down her narrow, steep stairs, and horrible getting them all into my car, but we managed it.

Then, we got the bright idea to take my Barbarian Lamp, Vladimir, with us ... to watch over the new place until I start living there this weekend. So we wrapped him in a blanket and Jocasta carried him in the front seat. She was very conscious of where she placed her hands; I laughed at her and told her not to be so nervous, I was sure he loved being carried around on a woman's lap. *grin*

I'd forgotten how heavy my car is with so many boxes in it, especially boxes full of books. I found out in a hurry just how much added weight there was when I hit the brakes at a yellow light (with 1and 1/2 times my normal stopping distance available) and nearly skidded into the intersection. Thank God for anti-lock brakes. I've seldom felt so helpless ... being pushed inexorably forward by a ton of paper and steel was a very ominous sensation.

Well, we got there all right, and managed to get all the boxes in my closet ... Azash had already been there, and filled the master-bedroom closet, but that was OK. We've got cell phones, so I don't mind not having a phone jack, and the rooms have very little difference in floor space -- maybe a couple of square feet. He does have a larger bed and an enormous desk, so I won't begrudge him that.

Poor Azash. He brought me the apartment key yesterday afternoon while I was at work ... it was one of his off days. He arrived around 1:30 and called my office number, trying to reach me ... but I was at a meeting in a different building, and my cell phone was dead. So he sat in one of the school parking lots for over half an hour, waiting semi-patiently and calling every 5 minutes or so. I finally got back to my office around 2:15 and found a hang-up message on my phone from his cell number, and called him ... to discover that he'd seen me drive by, tried to follow me, and lost me on one of the service roads. *laughing* But he had a good attitude about the whole mix-up, and I apologized profusely for not giving him the secretaries' number before. He could have tracked me down that way!

*yawn* Ugh, I'm tired ... and I'll be more exhausted before the moving is done. I've got to take another load or two of boxes tonight, and the parents are supposed to arrive with their big beautiful truck sometime Friday to help with the furniture. It'll be a treat, trying to get my dresser back down those stairs. *grin*

Later.

[For $32000]: Which of the following words is an eponym?

A. Leotard
B. Dreidel
C. Splash
D. Xerox

(This one puzzled me. I couldn't remember what an "eponym" was! A hint: the answer's NOT "D").
