That Day With the Romantic Name

This is the first day in years that I haven't worn black on Valentine's Day. Not for any good reason ... just because I completely forgot about it until I was halfway to work. *sigh* Only 17.1 hours of the day left to live through ... Of course, it doesn't help that I (1) am catching a cold (2) am still drained from all the sugar I ingested yesterday and (3) have a nasty knot in my neck from sleeping poorly last night.

Did I mention yesterday how absolutely hopeless bureaucracies are? Especially private ones. This enormous integrated database system we purchased probably looks beautiful on paper and on screens, and does have some cool web-related functions, but it's not too well designed (table structure wise) and completely ignores a significant part of this place ... i.e., the Maintenance division, of which I am a part. There's a rumor that they're going to tell us to pull our current, extremely functional system in favor of the new one, as a money-saving device ... but how on earth are we to keep everything running smoothly then, when we can't enter or view any of our data properly?

Also ... you'd think, for three point four meeeeelleeeeeon dollars, that they'd at least have refreshments at their huge all-day meeting, and more to look at than a few penned overheads. *shrug*

... On a slightly different note, in the interests of diversifying my scifi show preferences, I have watched Babylon 5 episodes every day for the past two weeks with Azash. *shudder* I'm sorry, guys, I just can't make myself like it. I like the characters, yes, and the plot even holds some interest for me, but damn, it's just so ... so ... soap opera-y!!! I can't sit still and enjoy watching a whole hour of that! When they started making half the scifi shows into continuums where you needed to watch several past episodes to effectively understand the current one, the genre went downhill, IMHO.

*sigh* Well, despite the day's date, and the feeling of unwellness that presses on me, I think I shall gaze out the window for a moment and lift my spirits ... Beauty is out there, and a world bigger than all my petty problems.

Live. Love. Learn.
