Friday Afternoon Boredom, and the Return of WWTBM

4:30pm on a Friday ... what a horrible time to be stuck at work with nothing to do. I'm not about to go ask for a new assignment this close to a weekend, so I'm left sitting on my thumbs. There's very little that I hate worse than being bored.

I'm actually juggling about half a dozen small projects right now ... database updates, network errors that need solving, web page design for the department's online MSDS service, trying to learn perl so I can update the scripts for said web page ... *sigh* It's just that all of the above projects are dead until next week, when I can find the people to discuss them with.

I'll be very glad when the school year ends and all the college kids disperse. Then, I can move back to my favorite 4-10's schedule and have 3-day weekends. Stretch out those vacation days, yeah. Hopefully, I'll be gone from here by the time the schedules go back to 5-8's, but I can't bet on that any more. Secretary #1 (excuse me, the Assistant to the Director of the department) will be on vacation in August, and Secretary #2 will need all the backup she can get. Since I promised them a year, and that year expires August 2nd ... I guess I can't really justify inflicting a new employee on them during crunch time.

I think Jocasta's determined to drag me to another SCA meeting tonight ... Honestly, the woman doesn't give up. I know, I'm the one who got her to start going to meetings in the first place, but membership takes $$ and I have almost none at the moment. What am I going to do at this newcomer/heraldry meeting? I can't submit my chosen name and device, as I must pay $12 for each item. I can't subscribe for a membership, because that costs over $40. I can't talk about what garb I'm going to make, because I can't afford the materials to sew garb from. I can't talk about events, because I haven't gone to any yet and can't afford the entrance fees anytime soon.

Argggh. I'd be happier at home, cleaning and sorting and whatnot, until it's time to go meet Hildegaard. Then I might actually get something done, instead of sitting quietly in Jocasta's shadow while all this purposeful chatter goes on around me.

Speaking of Jocasta, I might be seeing more of her. I mentioned that I might purchase a Tae Bo video to add variety to my workouts, and she said, Oh! I'd be interested in doing that with you once a week! So, after my next pay check, I think I'll be kicking and punching next to her every Saturday morning. Hopefully, not kicking and punching her ... *grin*

Anyway. I have a few things to do before I can sign out for the day, so I'll wish y'all a happy weekend. Oh, and I've decided to bring back the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire daily question. Enjoy!
