A Sunny Satin Shirt Day

Hey, argyle, thanks for the welcome back. I'm flattered that somebody noticed. =)

I seem to have vanished off the "Buddy List" of several people ... no surprise, since I was gone for two months. I wonder if the persons I know in real life will pick up on the fact that I'm posting again? I rather hope not, but I suppose that's too much to ask. Another interesting tidbit: somehow, mysteriously, my hit count has kept up at an average 9 hits per day ... Bizarre. I'll have to go through the log and check for odd google hits again. Pity it only stores the last 100.

I've discovered a pianist from Washington called Gary Jess. I'm listening to his cd, "Castles", right now. Glorious stuff. I picked it up in a little odds and ends shop called the Sunflower Barn, and played it for my mother ... She instantly demanded that my dad burn her a copy too. *grin* Something odd about the CD though ... on the insert, the author lists himself as a Steinway Artist. Is that a real, professional title, or just puff-myself-up-ism? I have no idea.

Heh. When discussing the Sunflower Barn just now, I was highly tempted to list its location as BFE ... A new term I've picked up from my brother. Reminds me of the term BFG, from ... oh what's the game ... Quake, I think. Well, they share the F ... the other letters in BFE stand for Beyond and Egypt. Refers to something being in the Middle of Nowhere. Of course, y'all probably already know this ... But it's new to me, and I keep chuckling over it. Egypt holds a special association for one of my best friends, and I know she'll have a highly interesting reaction when I tell her about BFE. *grin widens*

One of my old reads, the87loft, appears to have posted almost as infrequently as I did during the last two months. Of course, she had a much better excuse. Her diary before was mostly angst-ridden soap opera-style episodes about her fractured love life ... and now she's blissfully, and happily, matched up with the Man Of Her Dreams. Blissful persons have no business blathering about angst. I find myself curiously watching her new diary, lisse: I wonder what she'll find to talk about now, and if it'll be as entertaining as the old one.

*glancing out window* My, it's grey out there today. We had a spate of sunny days, and now drizzling misery again. Just goes to show, as they say, "Only in Oregon can it be raining in the middle of a drought." I decided to combat the Sombre Mood of the outdoors today and dig out my granny's brilliant gold satin shirt, with black slacks and a black-and-gold vest, finished off with gold hoop earrings. I look something like the Gypsy stereotype, except that my hair is still too short, but everyone that's seen it so far has given me cheerful compliments. (Good idea, oh Shell, if I do say so myself).

Before I forget, I must make a minor concession to those whose B5-loving ways I have always ridiculed: Now that I've had a chance to watch it through from the beginning (although I *have* missed several episodes still) I'm enjoying Babylon 5 MUCH more. Everything makes sense now! And it's not near so soap-opera-y as I thought! Of course, it could just be that the last season or so really IS soap-opera-y ... But I'll wait to reserve judgement this time through.

Eeek, though, it is extremely creepy to see Chekov the Dashing Russian ("Captain, it is the Enterprise!") as Bester, the Mostly-Evil Psi Cop. Last night's episode made him a bit more human ... but STILL. *shudder*

*glancing at clock* Ah, I guess my coffee break is long over. I'm tempted to get another cup and keep going ... Well, I will get another cup, but I don't want to get Censured for Internet Use again, so I must post and go. (Festering idiots. Someone saw me researching Perl not so very long ago and complained to my supervisor. What the hell? People, Internet use is part of my JOB.)
