2001-08-14 - 11:38 a.m. Nothing much going on
I've been waiting to write again until something interesting happened ... Seems like everyone else I know isn't writing either, so I don't feel too bad. Well, nothing has happened. No strange dreams; I've had too little sleep to dream properly. I need at least six hours, and since I never get more than 4 hours of sleep on Sunday and Monday nights (they're my brother's off days, and he keeps the living room noisy 'till all hours) I have been waking up feeling like I just went to sleep. More coffee, please ... *rubbing eyes tiredly* Darn. I was starting to look forward to sleeping again. Today, tomorrow, and then VACATION! Five days of doing whatever I feel like, and my best friend will be here. Hurrah! On at least one of those days, I fully intend to stock the car with Mt. Dew and just drive off in whatever direction she points. It's been too long since our last adventure. I sounded my dad out about the idea of going to grad school next year. He seemed to think it was a pretty good idea, as long as I came out of it with a useful degree. My bachelor's isn't worth much anymore ... 40% of the computer-job world was fired in the last year, according to the newspapers. All the hiring now is for people with 5-plus years experience, or obscure specialties, or backgrounds in administration. Where does that leave me? *sigh* Besides, I like the idea of returning to academia. It may be a place to hide ... but so be it. If I get an assistantship, tuition will be paid for me, and I can gain even more skills. Maybe then I can get another job in a university somewhere when I graduate. I like the academic environment. I think it's in the blood ... my dad's dad was a teacher. I can't remember whether he was a Beaver or a Duck though ... I hope the university I want to do grad school in, isn't the Enemy. *lol*
