Joining the Buffy fan club

Egh, I think I'm getting way too into the Buffyverse. Well, and the Angelverse, too, but I am SO not a fan of Buffy/Angel romance. Too much mystery and brooding and impossibilities. Oh joy, two people whose lives are already full of angst get together (or lament that they can't) and do nothing but generate MORE angst. So far I've only seen the first nine episodes of the first season of B:tVS in syndication on Fox (several Angel appearances), and the first episode of season six on UPN (one Spike appearance), and already I prefer Spike over Angel, no contest.

My brother thinks I've suddenly gone insane the last two weeks, reading episode summaries to catch up on the major plot points of past seasons, watching every episode that airs, and laughing myself silly over various bits of dialogue. Of course, even he snorted in amusement one of Spike's lines to Giles in the new episode Tuesday, which went something like: "What's the matter, old man? Life flash before your eyes? Cup of tea, cup of tea, almost got shagged, cup of tea ..."

I think it's grabbed my imagination so powerfully mainly because of the show's quirky sense of humor and the absolutely stellar interactions between the characters. They all feel quite real to me, like people I wouldn't mind knowing. It's not about the demon-of-the-week to me; it's about the good-vs-evil challenges and how they shape the lives and friendships of the main characters.

Heh. Kind of like X-Files: I don't watch it for the latest alien or other boogey-man, although some of the theories Mulder cooks up *are* extremely amusing. I watch it for the Mulder-Scully interaction (even when there are no romantic vibes, they play off each other extremely well) and for Skinner and Doggett. Doggett is no Mulder, but he's really growing on me, despite that Terminator face.

Enough TV talk. Anyone for a book discussion? No? Good, because all I've been able to read lately are newspapers, Newsweeks, the new Dick Francis mystery, and a handful of my mother's romantic thrillers. Not much time or money for anything else, and aside from the Dick Francis, they're not worth the web space. About Dick Francis, I shall only say, how many ways the man find to work racing into a novel? This last was fairly inventive; the hero is a glassblower! I enjoyed it. Great defuser after a frustrating day at work.

No thrilling and incisive commentary on my life or lack thereof today ... Just a leftover yearning for that long chocolate-brown leather jacket I "saw" myself wearing. How sad am I? I can even sit here and close my eyes and feel how it would tug at my shoulders and smell the fresh leather scent. Sometimes having a vivid sense-rich imagination can be a curse, no matter how interesting it makes my dreaming hours.
