2002-03-13 - 2:00 p.m. When the Fiction Hits the Fan
I've taken the next step into the madness. First, I spent a year gushing my thoughts all over Diaryland; now, I've begun posting to Fanfiction.net. I was just sitting there this morning, turning over the events of the last two weeks in the Whedon-verse, and lamenting the fact that fans will have to go a month without any new episodes ... and suddenly, it came to me. The story's called "Lesser Men". I can't link to it from here because it takes up to 24 hours to have the link externally available. That's OK, though, because I've only posted Chapter One. Chapter Two will take a great deal more thought ... it might take me a few days to work it through. Cheese, I know. So much fanfiction is garbage -- perhaps even 90% of it. But among the remaining 10% there are a great many respected authors hiding behind pseudonyms, and a great many others who *would* get respect if they published original works. Good stuff. I see it as Step 2 (in a long list) on the road to becoming a published novelist myself. I just hope I get good reviews. =) Speaking of reviews, I started reading The Bell Curve last night. Hefty stuff. I can see why it's so controversial. Interesting, though. Very interesting. Made me go "Hmmm" a great deal ... and I'm not sure whether I agree with its supporters or detractors as yet. My main interest in it isn't the racial issues the media froths on about, but the nature and measurement of intelligence, and the formation of the current American caste system. *yawn* I should stop getting lunch at Safeway; it's too tempting to order Chinese Cuisine, and consume an entire Express Special in one meal. I'm aiming for the weight listed on my new driver's license; that means losing 15 pounds, not gaining 15 more! *laughing* Ah well. Time to log off. Gratz to my friends who just had a baby, and blessings on the rest of you. Later ... << back | next >>
