2002-04-12 - 5:10 p.m. Thank God it's Friday. And thank the CEO too, for sticking with the regulation issue 5-day workweek. *grin*
This is me, yawning from ear to ear. What a day to have to work late. At least it's Saturday tomorrow and I can stop stressing about work. My boss had a dentist appointment yesterday that turned into a root canal, so she called in and told me to write "Available by Pager at xxx-xxx-xxxx" on the in-out board next to her name. This meant we missed our weekly meeting. This also meant that she had to call me when she got paged with questions, to dig up some info for her. So I dug. I sifted through her drawer for her password file and read the data she wanted to her, then hung up. Not, however, before I spotted an incriminating little sticky-note in the back of the folder, attached to my work review form. "Late 2 times as of 4/10/02." Need I describe what that did to my nerves? I had an instant compulsion to go sift the Classifieds. Then a mental slap. After all, it's only twice in two and a half months. It's a bad sign, though. I've been lucky in jobs so far that either (1) it was after classes or whatnot so waking up in time wasn't a problem or (2) they were really casual about timeliness, so long as it wasn't obvious and I always made up the missing minutes elsewhere in the week. This place is a little more real-world than that. I don't think my supervisor actually minds, but if that goes on my review, *her* supervisor might. Or someone else in charge. I really don't need a messed up work reference when I leave here. And make no mistake, as soon as I've gotten use out of the company's health insurance policy, I'll be looking. I am *so* not cut out for this job. Someone once told me I'd make a good secretary -- and I might, in an entertaining, constantly busy, no-time-to-get-bored environment. This administrative specialist thing, however, is just not my cup of tea. Oh! Something slightly more cheery happened last night. After I poked around at my alarm clock again, discovered that the Alarm Set and Snooze buttons were busted, and dug my second alarm clock out of the as-yet-unpacked stack of boxes in my room, I decided to get on eBay again. Score! I did a search on "Scarlet Pimpernel" and came up with the very video I've been coveting these umpteen years: the 1982 Jane Seymour version, all 142 minutes of it. It had just been posted, with an ungodly low Buy It Now price of $25.00. My jaw dropped. That particular video is rare enough that most copies go for $40.00 or more on eBay. I don't know what this seller was thinking, but that baby was SO mine. CLICK! And there was my name all over it. This is me, doing the dance of joy. << back | next >>
