I'm not nineteen anymore, more's the pity; where's Josta when you need it?

Oh, do I feel flattened today. Wrung out to dry. Drained of energy. Run over by a truck. Et cetera, et cetera. I've been trying to read my way through that Anne McCaffrey series, and have been staying up later as a result; put me on a couch with a book and a cup of tea and it's suddenly 1 a.m. before I realize that my eyes are tired, I haven't showered, and I have to wake up in a little over five hours.

I made it to the fifth book last night, The Tower and the Hive, the new (and last) book in the series. I got caught up in the plot and didn't turn the lights out until after 3 a.m. I couldn't believe I had been so distracted and drifted off worried that I'd oversleep again. Big mistake. I should have learned by now that going to sleep late full of negative emotions when I've been sleep-deprived for several days already is an enormous no-no. I woke up at least 3 times over the next hour from awful half-nightmares, absolutely convinced that I had already overslept and that all sorts of horrible things were happening.

Speaking of no-nos (of the insect sort), how 'bout Paschal? Survivor 4 is ever so much better than Survivor 3 was; the location is better, and the people are a lot more interesting to watch. My brother and I were yelling and whooping when the oldest guy on the show managed to out-race the others through the water carrying a 40-pound rock. He deserved that win, and the others were spoil-sports about it. I mean, how was he supposed to carry escargot off the ship, or creme brulee?

And speaking of (to backtrack a bit) getting run over by a truck, can I just *shudder* now? Anyone else catch the new CSI last night? The A-plot was one of those ripped-from-the-headlines stories, about a guy who was struck by a car and wedged through the windshield, then spent the next two days dying by the drop in the car owner's garage while said owner ignored him. Horrible. Even if it did feature Gil and Sara working a case together again and dropping little crumbs for my GSR sympathies.

I so hope the producers don't ruin things by drawing the UST out for 7 years, at which point most 'shipping viewers have given up out of exhaustion, then deny us any glimpse of RST with specious storylines. I had enough of that from a certain other show with the 24th letter of the alphabet in its title! After the intro of Doggett and the "death" of Mulder I would cheerfully have switched to DSR, due to Robert Patrick's fine acting opposite Gillian Anderson, but oh no, they had to muck that up too with Miracle Baby and Living Runaway Mulder and Moronica and the death of the Lone Gunmen (!!!) and all sorts of other garbage. Bleh. Even the mytharc fails to intrigue any more.

*sigh* I'd better post this before I fall asleep and stretch my break into a nap. I need to fetch me some more caffienated beverage, then poke around for something active to do. It's hard to tinker with database structure when the planning parts of my brain aren't talking to either the artistic parts or the memory banks, a little condition I like to call "No F'ing Clue What I'm Doing." *yawn*
