2002-07-01 - 10:29 p.m. Random thought fragments; Mom owns *my* jacket!
Yow. I just had one of those wierd cross-reference moments, watching Passenger 57. I was just sitting there, la la la la, and suddenly, BAM! I thought of blue lipstick. It took me a couple of minutes to figure out why, I mean, come on, blue lipstick? But then, suddenly, it occurred to me. I dived for Azash's copy of "Dungeons & Dragons" and started comparing names. There it was, on both movies: Bruce Payne, whose name I absolutely do not recognize, but whose eyes I most definitely do. He has the most evil eyes ever. Even shaved bald and with blue lipstick in one movie, as compared to shaggy blond-haired normal hijacker in the other, the eyes are immediately recognizable. Well, aside from that, it's been a pretty usual couple of days. Oh, unless you count being dragged to half a dozen stores to help your mother try on wedding dresses unusual. Mom and Dad have decided to renew their wedding vows this fall when they're on that cruise. Dad actually bought a nice black suit for the occasion -- big shocker. He's never owned anything more formal than a sport jacket and tie in his life, usually minus the tie. He looks very 007 in the suit, so Mom's been hitting all the resale shops for formal dresses to wear at the formal dinners and a nice, simple wedding dress for the vows thing; problem being that the combination of "nice" with "simple" still runs in the $200+ range, even in resale shops. Mom finds the idea of spending that much on a one-time dress that isn't even for her *real* wedding a little hard to swallow, so we ended up (after many hours) not buying anything. Sigh. Oh, scratch that. *I* bought something. When Mom was trying on formals, I spotted a black velvety one, long partially slit skirt, high neck, some actual presence of sleeves, pretty modest ... except for the gauzy patch in the center, exposing an area from the base of the throat to the top of the breasts. You know the kind I'm talking about. It looked good on Mom, a little long, but I could tell Dad thought it was tasty on her. But she was just, no. And I loved the dress. So I tried it on. Heh. I may be a few pounds over my ideal weight, but damn if that dress doesn't look good on me, and it'll look even better when I'm in shape. Now, should I ever need to go out on a formal date, like to the opera (a girl can dream), I will actually have something to wear for the occasion. That was $35 well spent. I wonder how much it would have cost new? Oh!!!! Which reminds me. My mother bought my coat! The one I drooled over in the leather coat section of the store, but can't afford yet! And it's a size too small, so I can't even borrow the thing!!!! They went shopping for luggage for their cruise and hit a bargain sale and picked up jackets while they were at it, on mega-discount. *aggreived sigh* I want, I want, I want. I poor. I no get. But I want. ... Hmmm. I haven't whined about my current story in a bit, despite the fact that it's keeping me from writing much here, so I'll update. It's up to a little over 12 chapters now, 24,000+ words, and I've got a few beta readers looking over what I've got so far to make sure I don't have any glaring plot holes. There's maybe 4 or 5 more chapters in it until it's done, I think, and then I shall jump for joy and shout Hurrah! I doubt I'll write any more epics for a while -- this one has kept me as its slave for five weeks now. Well, it's back to the grindstone, so I'll sign off now. Blessings. << back | next >>
