2002-10-14 - 10:34 a.m. New job. Ugh, Yay? Not sure yet which.
I've only got a minute or so here before I've got to run, so I'll post fast; I just thought I should drop in an update! I finally dragged myself over to a temp agency on Thursday; it was three-thirty or so, and the gal at the counter gave me an application and told me to come back the next day. I was driving my brother's car since mine was acting up AGAIN, but *shrug* I did as told. On Friday, they mmhmm'ed at my application and resume, ran me through an Excel test (95%) and a typing test (5 minutes -- 84 wpm, 2 mistakes) and then told me I was very impressive, but the only job they had open immediately was a call-center job a 45-minute drive away, doing surveys for a credit-card company for $8.00 an hour. Eek. Not one I'd ever apply in the paper for ... but it's only a 3-week assignment, it means I'll have some cash to throw at the next rent payment, and a chance of something better after. Plus, the testing part made me feel really good about myself. I had no idea my typing had gotten that good! And the Excel thing -- you weren't allowed access to manuals or Help texts, so I was pretty happy with my result. My schedule will suck for awhile (working 11:30am - 8:00pm) and cut into my TV shows, but hey. Can't exactly live on air these days. And, I repeat to myself, it's only three weeks ... Oh, and the car thing? Turns out one of the new spark plugs Dad put in was missing this little metal cap clippy thing. The car can run without it, but whenever it got hot it would "miss", which is pretty noticeable and freaksome when you're zipping down the freeway. All he had to do to fix it, though, was buy this one small part and put it in, et voila! Umm, must go now if I'm not going to be late on my first day. Blessings, all. << back | next >>
