2002-11-21 - 2:07 p.m. The light at the end of the tunnel!
Got a job. Got a job. GOT A JOB! Who's the man, huh? Kind of on a temp basis just now, but it's a small office job basically combining everything I've done before, minus the ugly parts. And it pays about $1.50/hr more than I was getting at the last job. Now, if I can only hold onto it long enough to make up for the ten weeks of being broker than broke, life will be bliss. I work Monday and Tuesday next week, and start full time on December 2nd. I'm going to have to use one of those credit-card payment checks to cover this month's rent, but hey, they just raised the limit on the card $1000. Painful to pay off later, but I won't need to borrow buckage from the parents after all, and that's always of the good. They don't really have any cash to spare, either. Hee, hee, hee. I did the phone interview with the HR guy at the company last week, and he was very impressed with me, he said, despite my relative lack of experience years-wise compared to other applicants. Of which he had more than 50! Turns out the office is for a processing plant of some sort that hires a lot of temp workers, so he thought he'd run the Admin Assistant job by the temp agency when it came up, too, in addition to the newspaper ad, just to be fair. My resume was one of only three that came close to the job description, AND I'm the only one he interviewed from the agency. Ooooh, that's a badly needed ego boost. Means I'll have to get a move-on on the story, though; I won't have as much time to spare for it starting next week, and considering it got delayed several months already, I'm don't intend to abandon it again. I'm not getting nearly the feedback I did on the first one, though. I think it's because I had to rate it R -- say "fuck" more than once in your story and it breaks the PG-13 barrier, and you can't clean up Faith's language and still have her in character. This means potential readers must first turn off the filter, which only displays G, PG, and PG-13 stories, in order to find mine and read it. *sigh* Oh well. I'm going to go eat lunch now, then dance aimlessly around the living room for awhile to the random output of my brother's MP3 player, and then put my face on and trot over to the agency. Life is looking much, much better. Blessings, All! << back | next >>
